7 Things We Did At The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon

On the June bank holiday weekend, after months of training and fundraising, 35,000 women laced up their running shoes and ran through the Ireland’s capital city – all for great causes.

Thousands of participants and spectators flooded into the city centre for Women’s World 2016 and Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon, in the blazing sun and heavy showers. Our Verve team were also working hard with our client Vhi to bring their fabulous sponsorship to life.

Here’s what we got up to…

1. Vhi WMM 2016 App

In the run up to the race, we managed the official Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon app, so that everyone who signed up had instant access to training and nutrition tips to help their race preparation and performance on race day.

2. Women’s World 2016 – number collection and live demos

We designed and provided branding at all the Dublin and regional number collection points, including Women’s World 2016, where we also organised live cooking demos by celebrity chef and former pro-athlete, David Gillick.

3. Interactive experience

At Women’s World in the RDS, attendees were also given the opportunity to record their own ‘Race Face’ video and share it with their friends on social media.

4.Course signage

On race day, we made sure that runners and walkers were encouraged with branded distance markers and motivational messages that were dotted throughout the route, motivating and pushing runners for the finish line every step of the way.

5. RFID activated personalised support wall

This year we asked the public to submit their own personal words of encouragement to the special women in their lives taking part in the race.

We collected messages on a bespoke data capture website and through iPad stations at race number collection points in the week prior to the big day.

We installed custom sensors on the track which read the RFID tags embedded in the numbers of passing runners and matched their race number with their personally written messages. Just as they passed, we displayed the personalised messages from their loved ones on a 4.5 x 3 metre screen – giving runners that little extra push to reach their goal.

6. Relaxation area

Once participants reunited in Merrion Square, they could rest their feet and unwind in the Vhi relaxation area. Whether it be chilling out in beanbags and giant hammocks, getting their face painted and enjoying the DJ, or refuelling with our hydration station and David Gillick’s protein balls – the Vhi relaxation area had everything runners needed to re-energise after their 10k.

7. Capturing the excitement

It’s not every day that Dublin hosts such a special event, so we had to capture the excitement in the best way we could. We organised Ireland’s largest drone to hover over the city and film a spectacular birdseye view of the jam-packed city centre.

We were delighted to have had the opportunity to partner with the talented team in Vhi and the hard working Women’s Mini Marathon organisers and to be a part of such a special event ; the world’s largest all female ( well almost all female) sporting event. Sending out a massive ‘Congrats!’ to all the women who crossed the finish line at the Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon 2016.
