What marks the beginning of the festive season for you?

Is it the sight of Christmas lights illuminating city towns or perhaps it is the annual TV screening of the iconic glittering red Coca-Cola truck fleeting across a snowy landscape signifying that ‘Holidays are coming’.

For Verve, ‘tis the season to reach out to consumers experientially.

For the fifth year, the Verve team has linked up with Coca-Cola Ireland to launch their highly anticipated annual festive activity that without doubt won’t be forgotten.

Verve and Coca-Cola Ireland have guaranteed your festive season will be just that bit more magical by bringing the iconic truck to real life in an experiential way. While waiting to see the Coca-Cola Christmas truck up close, the Coca-Cola team has guaranteed that the journey is just as memorable as the destination. While sipping on a complimentary Coca-Cola the crowds are endlessly entertained by an MC and carol singing. They are offered to partake in fun games such as pass the parcel, ice block jenga and a photo op. The public then have the opportunity to capture a photo souvenir with the Coca-Cola Christmas truck which is then developed and framed to ensure the moment is never forgotten.

The Coca-Cola Christmas truck began its four week journey on Friday 27th of November at Tesco, Tullamore and ends Monday 21st December at Supermacs, Moneygall. It will be touring every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday as it embarks on its greatest tour yet. Galway, Wexford and Belfast are only a few of the many locations on the Trucks destination list for 2015.

We aren’t however the only ones indulging in the Festive takeover. We have scoured the globe for other experiential activities that embody the festive spirit and have become famous in their own right.

‘Twas the season to be snowy for John Lewis in 2014.

John Lewis, known for their ground breaking and innovative Christmas campaigns, have been capturing hearts since re-launching their annual festive ad beginning 2007. Their agency Adam&eveDDB does the impossible every year by appeasing the expectations of a public obsessed with an ad like no other.
Last Christmas consumer engagement was a top priority for John Lewis. Linking in with Samsung and Manning Gottlieb OMD they together entered the world of experiential marketing. With the help of Google Cardboard they were able to bring their digital focus to the next level.

A range of ‘Monty’s Dens’ were set up in 41 John Lewis stores across the UK where children and adults were offered to experience the world of Monty. The consumer explored a 360 degrees virtual world by simply placing an android phone in a cardboard contraption which looks similar to a pair of goggles. They then held it up to their eyes and from there stepped in and began their immersive experience of Monty’s Christmas

‘Twas the month of December 2013 when Canadian airline West Jet preformed a Christmas Miracle.

Supported by agencies Mosaic and Studio M, they went above and beyond to embody the spirit of the holiday season. They gave their customers a first-of-its-kind “real time giving” experience that spoke to each of them specifically and personally.

The airline set up virtual kiosks at Hamilton and Toronto International Airports for two Calgary-bound flights. Passenger’s scanned their boarding pass, prompting a video stream of a West Jet Santa who addressed passengers by their name and asked them what they want for the holidays. Meanwhile in a studio in Calgary, 150 West Jet employees played the part of Santa’s elves. They recorded the passengers requests then scrambled to buy, wrap and deliver all the presents to Calgary International Airport so they would fall out of the luggage carousel just as the passengers arrive.

The entire event was captured via hidden cameras and turned into an ad mimicking the poem commonly known as The Night before Christmas.
