Whether you’re faced with a team that has recently changed, or a team which has been working together far too long, it’s a really good idea to shake things up a bit and get people talking. Even the most efficient team needs a break from the day to day, and giving people an opportunity to re-establish friendships and connections can have a really positive impact on productivity. Whether you just want some light-hearted fun, or to really get people out of their comfort zones, there’s something for everybody; here’s our pick of the best.
1. Circus Skill Workshop
Most people have dreamed of running away to join the circus at some point in their lives, so why not make learning to juggle, balancing on the tightwire and defying gravity on the flying trapeze a reality for your team? The National Circus; based in Hoxton offer a wide variety of workshops and times, including a bespoke package for teambuilding days designed to challenge and inspire attendees and really get them working together. Prices are determined by the number of attendees to ensure that they provide enough trainers for each group- we just hope that it doesn’t inspire anyone to put their new found skills to the test back in the office!
2. The Big London Bake Off
Thankfully, without Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith passing judgement on your creations, there is 0% experience required to take part in this replica of the Channel 4 favourite show. Based South of the river near Tooting, and accommodating up to 20 people at a time, all the ingredients and equipment needed to bake their tasty monthly recipe are provided (and of course, you get to eat it at the end). A professional baker is on hand to offer advice to the less experienced, but perhaps the most fun part is the treasure trove of customisable decorations, meaning everything you need to create a master piece, or an epic mess, is provided. Guaranteed to get people talking, and separate the great bakers from the rest, so you know who to target for home-made treats when you’re back at your desks.
3. The Southwark Brewery Tour
With ale having a bit of a cultural moment, and increasing importance being placed on buying from small local producers, it’s a great time to combine relaxing out of the office together, with an education piece on the history of ale, a lesson on how it’s produced, and of course the all-important taste test. A nice way to incorporate having a drink and relaxing with a lesson in the cultural heritage of brewing in London, the low stress nature of this activity means no one has an excuse not to participate. UK brewery tours are able to facilitate groups at a number of their sites both in London and across the UK, many also offering meeting rooms and catering to ensure you get the most out of your day.
4. Aftermath the Game
Team challenges where you escape a series of rooms have become very popular, with a variety of options popping up all over the city; the genius of Aftermath is that they bring the challenge to you. Perfect for large offices- the team will bring their whole set-up to you. Daily office environments become intensely exciting immersive fictional worlds, colleagues and friends are encouraged to find new ways to work together and the Aftermath team can create engaging experiences to surprise and delight even the most cynical of employees.
