From functional… to just plain fun. Here are five apps that we just can’t get enough of!
Make your smartphone videos look like they’ve been shot on your parents’ Panasonic VHS recorder from 1994. This app comes complete with fuzzy zoom, ‘record’ indicator and a time and date stamp. Camcorder is free, and the perfect app to retro up your Instagram videos.
From the guys who brought you Pokemon Go, is an educational tool for discovery called Fieldtrip. Realeased by Niantic Labs in 2012, Fieldtrip is a location-based mobile app which acts as “your guide to the cool, hidden, and unique things in the world around you.”
Using GPS, the app can notify you when you are near a place of interest, and give you a colourful history of the landmark. Whereever the city, whatever the landmark – Fieldtrip can tell you an interesting tidbit about the site, whether it be the Eiffel Tower or quirky shopfront in an Irish country town. Perfect for visiting a new city, or just discovering more about your own!
3. The Rock Clock
Wrestler turned action star, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has released the ultimate alarm app to help get up and get things done. This app does exactly what it says on the tin – set goals, deadlines and alarms, and The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment will make sure you crush them and move on to the next project. If you’re a fan of the morning ‘snooze’ button, this app is not for you – it doesn’t have one!
4. Events Assistant from Events.com
Events.com has released a handy new tool for event managers to oversee and manage every aspect of their event. From registration, to ticketing, integrated social media feeds and a built-in messaging service to communicate with guests, it’s everything you need if you’re organising a small event.

5. Google Now
Google Now is arguably the the most impressive virtual personal assistant available since it’s 2012 debut. Google has been consistently updating the app with new features, making it even easier to get weather information, news articles, film times, flight information, create appointments, manage your schedule, get directions… and pretty much anything else you could possible need from personal assistant software.
Even better, Google Now can anticipate your needs and give you information before you even ask for it! Up until recently, the intelligent PA software was only available for Android users, however Google have no rolled out Now as a part of it’s Google Search app for iOS.
